Each year, St Remio will fund a new initiative for a different coffee growing community and this year, we are supporting the female coffee Co-operative of Cocagi. Made up of over 1100 members, this year’s project will see us purchase 4 hectares of land alongside 12,000 new coffee plants with additional seedlings to grow sunflowers, tree tomatoes, passionfruit and avocado. These additional seedlings allow the co-operative to earn income from the land while the coffee plantation is being established (which takes 3 years to cultivate your plantation before it is ready for harvest).
Throughout the year, we will take you on the journey with us to meet the many faces and people that make up the co-operative as it is important to us to share the stories of the farmers as a great coffee starts at the source.
On our last visit to Rwanda in June 2019, we visited the proposed plot of land that will soon be handed over to Co-operative leader, Anna-Marie and marks and exciting time as they expand their land foot print and therefore their commercial viability.
To learn about the impact your coffee choice is happening, follow us on Instagram (@st.remio) or Facebook (St Remio) to see the project develop and meet the faces of Cocagi. We will also be posting regular blog updates. Thank you for being part of the change! Together, We Are St Remio!
